Vibrational Spectroscopy

Qualitative and quantitative analysis by molecular vibrations

Nicolet Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR )

IR spectroscopy involves recording the interaction of infrared light with matter. Typically the mid-infrared region of light (400-4000 cm -1) is employed, since vast majority of molecules absorb mid-infrared light.

Spectra-Tech Continum Microscope

Spectra-Tech continum microscope can be used to record the reflactance and transmission IR spectra of particles (typically greater than 10 m ). Images of the scanned particles can also be recorded.

FT-Raman Spectroscopy

Raman Spectroscopy is used for the qualitative and quantitative analysis of materials. The exact characteristics of Raman radiation depend on the chemical composition of the sample and every compound has unique spectral fingerprint. Since no two molecules give exactly the same Raman spectrum and the intensity of the scattered light is related to the amount of material present, it is easy to obtain both qualitative and quantitative information about the sample.

Nicolet FT-Raman Spectrophotometer uses 1064nm Nd:YVO4 excitation laser, XT-KBr beam splitter, He-Ne laser for sample alignment, InGaAs detector and Computer for automated spectra collection and analysis. The unit comprises of several sample holders, which are routinely used for powders, thin films and liquids

Other Accessories

Following accessories are also available

Attenuated Total Reflectance (ATR) Kit for Infrared Sampling comprises 45-degree angle of incidence ZnSe crystal (flat and trough plates) for analyzing thin films, powders and liquids.

Harrick Grazing Angle Reflectance Accessory with a fixed angle of 75 degrees, for analyzing thin films on metal and semiconductor substrates.

Gemini Diffuse reflectance accessory for analyzing non-reflecting powder materials with minimum sample preparation
